A specialist rubber extrusion company in Hitchin has been sold, enabling its owners, Peter and Jane Estwick, to embark on a well-earned retirement. The sale was managed by Watersheds, a corporate finance firm that expertly guided the process.
Founded in 1968, the business was acquired by Peter Estwick in 2002 following 25 years of experience in the rubber products industry. Under Peter’s ownership, the company has developed into a market leader, providing advanced products made from natural and synthetic polymers to sectors such as automotive, classic automobiles, heavy machinery, wholesale electrical, and van conversions.
While planning their business exit, Peter and Jane turned to Watersheds to find a buyer who would appreciate the company's value and potential for further growth. Watersheds facilitated a sale to Warwickshire-based SJG International Limited.
Familiar with Kopak as both suppliers and customers, Managing Director Robert James recognised the opportunity to consolidate the supply chain. Negotiations were simplified by Watersheds, who provided a buffer and hands-on project management to ease the stress of the sale.
Peter Estwick stated, “Watersheds took much of the stress and anxiety off our shoulders in finding the right buyer to fit with our plans in keeping the business growing in the future whilst providing a synergy with any potential buyer.”
William Senior, Partner at Watersheds, explained, “Selling a business can be overwhelming for the owners as there are many parties to deal with. We were able to support and advise Peter and Jane from beginning to end and project manage the accountants and lawyers involved. This allowed them to focus on continuing to run the business successfully.”
Peter and Jane’s successful transition into retirement demonstrates the effectiveness of Watersheds’ approach in ensuring that the business's legacy and growth potential are preserved under new ownership.
