Graham Darnell/Kenyon

Management Buy In Corporate finance specialists, Watersheds, successfully completes the Management Buy In of a logistics business for a longstanding client

With the assistance of Watersheds and the backing of Ultimate Finance, Blackburn based Kenyon Road Haulage Limited and Kenyon Warehousing Limited have been acquired by new owner Graham Darnell.

Graham has over 20 years’ experience in the logistics sector and had worked with Watersheds on a previous acquisition. When the time came for him to find another business to build upon, and take on to greater success, he turned again to Watersheds.

Graham Darnell commented: “It was important for me to find the right kind of business to acquire. One that has stability and a good reputation for delivering quality service, yet still has the potential to grow. Family run businesses are ideal for this and Kenyon ticked all the boxes. Having worked with Watersheds before, they understood precisely what I was looking for and brought some really interesting opportunities to the table before I settled on Kenyon”

“The process of acquiring a business can be quite daunting, and raising finance in the current market is challenging. Watersheds were able to source a funding package that worked for all parties and enabled the deal to go ahead, guiding me through the process up to the day of completion.”

Kenyon Road Haulage Limited and Kenyon Warehousing Limited were established in 1933, and operate from a six and a half acre site in Blackburn, with a fleet of 170 vehicles and trailers. The sale will allow the previous shareholders to retire in the knowledge that the business, which has been passed down through generations, and the workforce, are in safe hands, with a new owner who brings knowledge and expertise in the industry.

Wendy Lam, Partner at Watersheds, said: “We looked at several opportunities with Graham and are pleased to have found Kenyon. It was clear from the initial meeting that he and Mr Kenyon had great rapport and respect for each other, which is important, particularly when buying family run businesses.”

“I am glad we were able to help Graham to complete the acquisition with few complications. There were many parties involved, which can be overwhelming. However, project managing the process and keeping on top of a short deadline meant that Graham could focus on understanding the business before he became the new owner, which ultimately ensured a smooth handover.
